Father’s day

IMG_1754

We took Dad away from campaign work to take him out for special father’s day dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. The manager served us all cannolis on the house! I guess he figured anybody that is crazy enough to take ten children out to eat deserves free pastries!

A great big thank you!

Vote Wasinger on Aug. 3
I am writing to express my support for Rob Wasinger, a Republican running for Congress in the 1st District to replace Jerry Moran, who is running for Senate. Wasinger is a fourth-generation Kansan, born and raised in Hays, and lives in Cottonwood Falls.
After meeting him through my friend, Judge Tom Tuggle of Concordia, I hosted Wasinger in my home for a reception. He has the right judgment, experience and values to serve us as our next congressman. He has a plan to revitalize our rural economy and stop our rampant out-migration problem. I also like that Wasinger is a great father to his 10 children and a wonderful husband to his wife, Meghan. His motto should be that of my hometown of Beloit: Vision with values.
Most importantly, I am confident Wasinger will continue the great tradition of visiting all 69 counties like Moran has, since Wasinger has been to many counties, even the most rural, several times. He will be the type of congressman who listens, and that’s something we need and deserve.
Join me in supporting Wasinger in the Aug. 3 Republican primary.

Tim’s way
There’s no other way but Tim’s way, and don’t you forget it! If Sunflower Electric or Westar Energy, who opposed his EPA amendment to the state budget, thought that they could reason with Huelskamp on this issue they should have saved their breath. Fortunately, through the leadership of Rob Wasinger and others, the governor was able to assess the negative impact of the budget resolution and veto it.
I have indirectly followed the legislative career of Huelskamp for 14 years, and can assure you that once he has made up his mind about anything, he doesn’t want someone trying to confuse him with the facts.
Wouldn’t it be great having that kind of “give and take” representation in Congress? Sorry, but I don’t think so.

Wasinger would serve district well

EMPORIA —      As a student attending Emporia State University, I am concerned with the
growing burden of debt on my generation and am concerned with how I will find a job in rural Kansas when I graduate. Due to my concerns, I began to research who the best candidate is to replace the big shoes of Jerry Moran.  Our district needs a representative who will put an end to the outrageous spending in Washington and has an actual plan to bring good-paying jobs back to the “Big First.”
After researching all the candidates, I strongly believe Rob Wasinger is the best choice for the position.  Rob reached out to our College Republicans chapter, which no other candidate felt compelled to do. Furthermore, Rob has a plan to stop the outflow of people from counties in the 1st District and return jobs to the area through his New Homestead Act. And because Rob is the father of nine children, I know that Rob will stand by principle, do what’s right for the Big First, and fight for me and future generations of young Kansans.
Please join me in voting for Rob Wasinger in the August 3rd Republican
primary.

Candidate: Rural growth most important for district

By ADAM STEWART

Staff writer

The United States needs a “new Homestead Act” — especially Kansas’ 1st Congressional District — candidate Rob Wasinger said.

Rural communities have spent too long exporting young people to cities, he said. It is time to provide incentives for young people to return to small towns and start businesses after they graduate college.

“I’m the jobs candidate in this race,” Wasinger said.

He said he is interested in securing the economy for the future, for people’s children and grandchildren. There is too much spending in the federal government, he said.

He thinks there is still a chance to repeal the Obama administration’s health care package, which he said is wasteful spending. He said a market-based solution would be better.

“I’m a Republican who believes we need to build the roads and defend the homeland,” Wasinger said.

He was raised in Hays, and his parents still live here. After high school he earned an economics degree from Harvard University.

After college, Wasinger worked for Gov. Bill Graves and Rep. Jerry Moran. He has been Sen. Sam Brownback’s chief of staff for five years. He now lives in Cottonwood Falls.

Wasinger and his wife, Meghan, have nine children: Stephen, 16; Sebastian, 12; Carolina, 11; August, 9; Maddy, 8; Basil, 6; Paddy, 5; Frankie, 3; and Anselm, 2. They also are expecting another child; Meghan had a May 22 due date.

Letter to Aidan

Aidan meets his family

Aidan meets his family

Your dad dropped me off at the main entrance to the hospital after an
abrupt departure from the Thai restaurant where we had been enjoying dinner. So there I am at 10 PM in the lobby waiting for the elevator, while Dad parked the car. I was quietly thanking God that someone had thought to hang a huge sign that read “Women in labor: proceed to second floor.”  The nurse that greeted me asked a series of questions to determine if I was really in labor. There were two options ahead of me. Do I stand there and
answer all her questions politely or cut to the chase. I cut to the chase,
“Look,” I said,  “this is my tenth baby and I am definitely in labor.” Daddy showed up just in time to rescue me from the paperwork and  I proceeded down the hall with two of the sweetest nurses on earth beside me. After my initial work-up, I settled in for the hard labor.Your dad stood ready at my side to assist or intervene at just the slightest glance from me.  Less than an hour later, I delivered the biggest baby boy I have ever had, amidst a cheerful crowd of nine nurses and three doctors. Where did all these people come from? I thought. Surely someone had told them there was a  great show down the hall of this lady who was having her tenth baby. When they handed you to me, I whispered “I love you so much” in your ear over and over again as your dad stroked my forehead. I will never forget the look on his face. It was relief mixed with profound appreciation for bringing you into the world with the help of God.  All your siblings came in to visit you the next day, as well as Auntie Marilyn and Uncle Austin. I
gave them each the congratulatory Pez dispenser and the little ones took turns crumbling crackers all over my bed and floor. We had great fun
passing you around. Anselm was especially affectionate toward you,
lavishing your face with kisses. I think you two will be lifelong buddies. And so it was when our tenth baby, you, Aidan Joseph Wasinger, entered the world on the 29th of May, 2010, weighing whopping 9 pounds and 10 ounces, and measuring 21 inches long. Our lives will never be the same.

Wasinger Applauds Veto of Huelskamp Amendment

Please take the time to read this informative article by Mary Clarkin.

Wasinger opposed Huelskamp measure

By Mary Clarkin – The Hutchinson News – mclarkin@hutchnews.com

Cottonwood Falls Republican Rob Wasinger won a skirmish Thursday against one of his 1st Congressional District rivals, state Sen. Tim Huelskamp, R- Fowler, when Gov. Mark Parkinson struck a Huelskamp initiative from the thick state budget bill.
Huelskamp sought to bar use of state funds to plan or implement federal rules regarding greenhouse gases. However, the regional administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency had pointed out to state officials that if such language prevailed, it could mean that this January, the EPA would exercise its oversight authority in Kansas regarding greenhouse gases if the state did not enforce requirements.

”While we believe this provision was intended to protect industry from being overly regulated, it may have unintended consequences for Kansas,” Sunflower Electric Power Corp. President and CEO L. Earl Watkins Jr. wrote Parkinson last week, urging the governor to veto the Huelskamp provision. Westar Energy Inc. also wanted the language deleted.

Wasinger wrote Parkinson, too, and disclosed the contents of the letter in a campaign press release.

“The Huelskamp amendment should have never been offered, and now that it is on your desk I urge you to use your authority and veto this reckless and dangerous measure,” Wasinger wrote, in part, to the Democratic governor.

Wasinger described the amendment as “poorly drafted” and “ham-handed in its approach.”

Meanwhile, Huelskamp had stood by his amendment. He noted in a campaign news release after the veto that the vast majority of Kansans wanted elected officials to “combat Obama’s cap-and-tax proposal and resist an out-of-control EPA.”

The Huelskamp release also quoted Jeff Glendening, vice president of political affairs for the Kansas Chamber of Commerce: “We are disappointed to see the governor veto the Huelskamp EPA amendment. The real beneficiaries of today’s veto are radical environmentalists.”

Another 1st District candidate in the Aug. 3 GOP primary, state Sen. Jim Barnett, R-Emporia, had voted for a similar Huelskamp resolution regarding greenhouse gases, but he did not respond to questions regarding whether he wanted Parkinson to veto the language.

“I am deeply disappointed that neither Barnett nor Huelskamp have had the courage to ask you to veto their amendment,” Wasinger wrote Parkinson.
